Ramzan : Spiritual belief behind fasting!

Ramazan or Ramadhan is a ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, a month of strict spiritual discipline to commemorate the first revelation of the Holy Quran to Mohammed, which is the Creator. During Ramzan, followers of the faith observe intense fast from dawn to dusk (Roza) in the name of the Almighty.

The word Ramadan in Arabic meant extreme dryness and intolerable heat.

What does Ramzan commemorate?

The month of Ramadan in the Quran was revealed as a guidance for mankind and included the criteria between right and wrong.

This festival is so popular across the world because of the prevailing practices among the Islamic People. Whenever a non-muslims hear the word Ramadan, he/she immediately reminds of the fasting the Muslims adhere to strictly. As far as the Islamic beliefs are concerned, fasting is an act of spiritual purification of the mind and the body.

What’s the Purpose of Fasting?

The spiritual purpose of fasting is to surrender/submission to a higher authority, The creator.

Fasting is central because, as human beings, how many times do you eat without being grateful? Many. It’s the physical body you are feeding all day, but by abstaining from eating one feels the pains of hunger and thirst. Thus, makes you aware of those who don’t get to break their fast because they’re hungry all the time. It makes you believe how blessed you are.

Quran exempted children, pregnant ladies, people with chronic illnesses from fasting.

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”

Quran, 2: 183

Charity is important in Islam.

Ramzan is also considered a month for charity. Muslims give a large part of their income to less fortunate people around them. They abstain themselves from the sinful activities, intimacy with their spouses, smoking, drinking during the fasting period to maximize the reward that will await them at the Last Judgment.

Whosoever recites only one ‘Ayat’ in Holy Ramadan, he will be awarded as if he had recited the full Qur’an in other months.

Suhoor And Iftar!

Pre-fast meal before dawn known as Suhoor. After it begins the first prayer of the day. Worshippers break their fast with feasts or Iftar which take place after sunset. Considered an opportune time to come closer to God. 1 / 30th portion of the Quran recited in night times every day so as to complete it by the end of 30 days.

Wishing a blessed Ramadan that will inspire you and give you the strength to win every challenge.
Happy Ramadan!
