What is Unity Day?

Every year on 31st October, National Unity day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, is celebrated in the memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the ‘Iron Man of India.
The government of India inaugurated the national unity day on 31st October in the year 2014.

It is celebrated all across India. The aim of celebrating this day is to spread the message of unity among Indians.

It is a tribute to India’s first home minister, who led the task of integrating princely states into the Union of India after independence in 1947.

‘Statue of Unity’ is an enormous statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, inaugurated by Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, on 31st 2018. The Statue of Unity is the tallest in the world, 597 feet in height.

On this day, the ministers from different parties gather to pay homage to Sardar Patel and the Statues Of Sardar Patel is decorated with flowers across the country.
The day is to promote: a sense of the law hearts of every citizen of India despite their religion, language or political view.
Unity in diversity, an expression of harmony and unity between dissimilar individuals or groups and a result national Unity day commemorated with an idea of strengthening the unity of Indians and the integrity of our nation.

Since 2014, every year on 31st October nationwide marathon ‘Run for Unity’, organised to raise awareness about national Unity day and to; remember Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Educational Institutes organise essays or speech competitions for students on this day.

Unity day is very special because on this day, people:

  • stand up against bullying
  • come together and unite
  • How can you do your part in Unity Day?

    1. You can do many things to show that you care. Some of which are:
    2. Wearing something Orange on 31st October, which is a colour of unity.
    3. Being a buddy and not a bully even on the Internet, don’t cyberbully.
    4. Speaking up if you see something wrong.
    5. Being kind! Every act makes a difference.

    Remember to be kind no matter what day of the year; an act of kindness a day can still make a difference. And even Something small like saying good morning to someone who seems to feel low and make an impact.
    The best way to celebrate the day is to forget personal differences and stay United always.
