The United Nations International Day of Peace, also officially known as World Peace Day, is annually held on 21 September and every year it celebrates the efforts of individuals, organizations and government to end conflict and promote peace.

What is Peace?

Peace has different meanings for different individuals.
Peace is freedom from violence and oppression.
It is equality regardless of gender, sexual identity, race, religion and cultural background.

Peace is respecting the inherent dignity of every person.

It is the most affordable and doesn’t cost you at all, to be a peaceful person.

The symbol of Peace

The dove is often seen as the symbol of peace.
In many religions, the dove symbolize deliverance and God’s forgiveness. The dove was selected as an emblem for the World Peace Congress in 1949 and became a symbol for the peace movement.

Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.


The pre-existed inequalities in the community disturb world peace.

In 2021, as we heal from Covid19, we need to think of ways to recover the world for the better. Bringing equality, equity, sustainability is the goal.
We all are experiencing the Covid19 pandemic but, it has most affected the unprivileged groups of the societies. The health services provided to them are poor and the distribution of vaccines are not equal in all the communities. As a result, people are suffering b

Those living in the deprived areas are most to suffer the negatives consequences of instability in the society, be it pandemic or political clashes.
So, it is time for us to confront things in our world that threaten people’s wellbeing and happiness.

A green and sustainable world can be created by the mass effort of people because together we stand strong.

On this day, the UN Secretary-General rings a bell made from the coins donated by 60 countries at UN headquarters in New York City donated by the UN Association of Japan in 1954 because the Peace bell symbolizes hope and aspiration for global peace.
The International day of peace is celebrated all around the world through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
To commemorate and celebrate this day organises many events are related to education, arts, social issues, the environment, sports etc.

Path towards peace

Now, on the day of International Peace Day in 2021, it is our time to foster a culture of peace rather than violence and to do that we need to educate our young generations on the importance of peace.

The children of our nations are our future. Children care about our environment. They cannot bear to step on the bugs and hugs trees if they bump into them.

Those who influence children have a responsibility to teach them about peace, non-violence, climate change and, the dangers of discrimination must educate them.

We should all strive to have that much love and empathy for our planet.

Celebrate this International day of peace by:

  • Participating in the UN call for a global 24-hour cease-fire and commit to lasting sustainable peace.
  • Keep pushing the government and other leaders to close the vaccine gap between rich and poor countries.
  • Take action on the climate emergency that is engulfing our planet.

You can make a difference in our world and Together the smallest changes make the largest impact.
