Goa CM Lt.Manohar Parriker

One more gem of the Indian Politics Late Mr Manohar Parrikar, true aam aadmi had rested in peace forever. He left behind his true spirit of patriotism, honesty, integrity and dedication towards his work. He was a real hero who always had adhered the principle of service before self.

Mr.parrikar was well known for his perfect, pure record and simple lifestyle. He resembles the common man- light blue half-sleeve bush shirt and riding scooter. This image helped him to find people reachable to them.

Mr Parrikar’s Background

Born in Mapusa in north Goa( 13 km away from the capital Panaji) in 1955. At this time the state was still under the control of Portuguese. Brought up in Goan village of Parra and further completed his education from Loyola High School in Margao. Later, joined IIT-Bombay to graduate in metallurgical engineering.

He was a batchmate of technocrat Nandan Nilekani and also the first IIT alumnus to serve as the legislator of a state and later, chief minister.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) Ideology’s Influenced him and soon became the Mukhya shikshak(mentor) in the final year of his schooling.

On RSS Recommendation he joined BJP(Bharatiya Janata Party) with the objective of fighting against the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party in Goa.

The first time he became the member of the Legislative Assembly of Goa in 1994 and the Leader of opposition from June to November 1999. His spirit of working hard and dedication towards the welfare of the people of goa, helped him reached out the public.

His Achievements

on 24 October 2000, he became the chief minister of the Goa, but his tenure lasted shortly until 27 Feb 2002. After the four BJP MLAs resign from the house his party reduced to a minority. He again created his party on 5th June 2002.

on 29th Jan 2005, Pratap Singh Rane of Indian National Congress throne as the new Chief Minister of the Goa. With never let it go attitude, fight back in March 2012 by winning 24/40 seats. He again got himself into the chair of CM.

Under the leadership of Mr.Narendra Modi, Mr.Manohar Parrikar began his new journey in active politic outside Goa as the Defence Minister for a tenure of 2.5 years.
